Downtown Antiques- Let's go inside!

Taking a peek inside Downtown Antiques: A two story antique shop that also houses a cafe, a bookshop and a law office. Now that's versatility! It took a little pleading, but I finally convinced my hubby to stop.

There was so much to look at!  From the regular sort of antique finds:

Pez Dispensers (sorry for the glare)

Beautiful glassware (Love the cookie jar)

Look at the pattern on the little creamer set...so cute

An assortment of oil lamps

Old cast iron ware

Character glassware
Although all of these things were beautiful to look at, nothing truly grabbed my attention. We kept looking, booth after booth, and as we did, we came across some items that had us scratching our heads in wonder:

Wooden monkey

Not sure what that is-maybe a redneck back scratcher
(I can say that, I live in Arkansas....lol)
Bunny Family

Over-sized tortoise shell

underside of shell
I had to convince my son that he did not need the tortoise shell, although he wanted to add it to his small collection of turtle shells at home. He had one given to him a long time ago, and recently found another out in our yard. I had to quickly divert his attention and I was in luck, as the next few booths had these old toys:

Old View Master with original box

Vintage Metal Toys

Fire Truck and drums

This was so cool
What I love about these sort of places, is sometimes the items just bring back memories:

Mr. Peanut Man (story behind this in a previous post)

Neat to see this old Candy Striper Uniform
(I used to be a Candy Striper at a hospital in my teens. )

Reminds me of when my grandpa used to go duck hunting
I can recall living in several places growing up that had these old type of radiator heaters. No matter how hard I would try to avoid them, I always ended up bumping into them and having instant blisters from the heat. I hated them with a passion.

 Some of my favorite items:

I loved EVERYTHING in this booth!

Old mailbox doors
If you are an American Pickers fan, and you seen the last episode, then you will appreciate the following items that are similar to the items featured on the show:

Right up front--what grabbed my attention from the street

The one on the right is a "Buddy L"

Creel Baskets

Wood working tools- planers
We had a great time exploring and finding these treasures, but the award for the most unique goes to this:

The "Most Unique" Award goes to......

The JOHN LENNON TAPESTRY

My children first spied it hanging on the wall, and asked "who is she?", and I can't say as if I blamed them for the gender confusion, as Mr. Lennon was wearing quite a bit of rouge for his photo shoot!!

That concludes are stop at Downtown Antiques---and as these folks are probably thinking.....

Thanks for the visit and y'all come back now, ya hear!!!

Loved looking at these pictures. Do you think that the "redneck back scratcher" might be a shoe scrubber? Following you back from Relax and Surf Sunday. I look forward in getting to know you more through your blog!

Do you have to go in person to ask a price on something or does each dealer have a web site? Can you contact them via email about an item?
rthjsmith@gmail.com

I just now found this article so sorry for the late reply. Hope you see this. I live a couple blocks south of the shop so I've been there countless times. This is a small town, so the individual dealers don't have websites. The store does, though - www.dtantiques.com - and you can call about prices, inventory, etc., at 417-256-6487. Hope this helps! The place is amazing :)
