Zuvo Water Filtration System Review AND Giveaway (CLOSED)

I remember my mother always exclaiming that well water was the best tasting water she had ever drank and while I was growing up, we lived in several rural areas where well water was all that was offered. I never really thought much of it...after all, I was just a kid and tried my hardest not to drink water. Fast forward a few years and now I'm all grown up (well, mostly)and water is a staple! I drink it all the time and love nothing more than a tall glass of refreshing ice water with a bit of lemon squeezed in it on a hot summer day!

Where we live now we are not able to get the treated city water and therefore, I am back once again to drinking well water. It's not bad and although sometimes I can taste a bit of an aftertaste, most the time I don't taste anything at all. However, even though I don't taste anything wrong with our water, doesn't mean that it's been filtered properly through mother nature before it reaches our tap. In fact, one night, I had a prime example of this. I turned on the water to the tub and planned on taking a soaking bath before going to sleep. While the water was filling, I went to the other room to pick out my nightgown and when I returned the water looked "funny". I emptied the tub and refilled. Same result. The water was brown. I'm not talking a little cloudy...I'm talking DIRTY. I immediately called my husband to the bathroom. "What is THAT?", I asked him (after all, aren't husbands responsible for anything that goes wrong in the house?) and he says to me (as if it is no big deal)..."yeah, it was like that when I took my bath earlier". Mouth drop. Huh? He took a bath in that? How does one take a bath and get clean when the water is so dirty? He tells me further: "It's what happens when you live out in the country and it rains hard". Seems I must have forgotten about this fine detail of well water.

He was right though and in a few days the water was back to normal. I've not experienced it since, but we haven't had a whole lot of rain our way lately either. It did get me to thinking about what exactly is in that water and whether or not it was safe for drinking. Therefore, when I seen the Zuvo Water Filtration system, I had high hopes as it looked promising toward making our water safe for drinking.

The Zuvo Water Purator uses a unique system that includes a five step process to delivery great tasting CLEAN water!

Step One: Ozonation--As water comes into the system, the Zuvo generates ozone that is mixed with the incoming water. This helps to treat any foreign matter or contaminants thus improves the overall flavor of the water. This oxidation process is accomplished without leaving any pesky chemical residues behind.

Step Two: Ultraviolet Light--Ultraviolet light floods the ozone saturated water which reduces microorganisms.

Step Three: Photo-oxidation-- UV light and ozone combined cause photo-oxidation which in return creates oxidizers that are released into the water to further treat it.

Step Four: Filtration with lead removal--The water then cycles through the Class 1 Particulate Reduction Filter, which in return reduces chlorine, lead and particles, which improves taste and flavor.

Step Five: Post-Filtration UV--As the water passes through the Class 1 Particulate Reduction Filter it is once again exposed to the UV light ensuring the water is clean, healthy and great tasting!

When the ZuvoWater Purator arrived, I was so excited to try it. For a few days it sat in the box while I waited for my husband to install it. I thought it would involve hard work and lots of tools, but one afternoon I decided to tackle the installation process myself. It was a breeze! Since the Zuvo fits nicely on the countertop, all I had to do was unscrew my current faucet end and screw on the Zuvo's diverter valve. They also include an attachment piece to use if your faucet end is the wrong size for the connector. Then, I simply plugged it in and turned on my water!!! Immediately, it was a whirlwind of water building up in the Zuvo, looking much like a mini tornado in a glowing tube! Simply amazing! By Zuvo's recommendation, I let the water run for five minutes before attempting to drink the water. (The longest five minutes EVER because I was really excited to taste the difference).

The first thing I noticed was CLARITY. I could actually see thru the water filtered by Zuvo, wheras the water that came straight from my tap was a little cloudy. This really excited me and then I really couldn't wait to taste it. I tasted it much like someone tasting wine would do...sniff, swirl, sniff, sip!!

"What did it taste like, pray tell..."

Well water on the left, Zuvo water on the right
Well, it tasted a bit like...hmm, well...water (minus the "well"). It tasted clean and without the aftertaste. NO metal taste, no anything. Just plain water like I would get if I drank bottled water! I thought it was simply me wanting this so bad to be a good thing, so I volunteered my two children to taste. I didn't let on which one was Zuvo water, but both of them knew right away. When I asked my son how he picked the Zuvo water, he says "cause it doesn't look funny". How great is that!! As soon as my husband got home from work, the children made him do a "taste test" as well, and he too picked the Zuvo water. There has to be something to it and even though I can't really test the water like a pro, I can go by majority rule that it does SOMETHING to make our water test better!

I like the fact that I can use Zuvo with the filter it comes with for up to 6 months (or 500 gallons of water) and that the UV light bulb will last approximately 7-10 years. Not only that, but I love how it reduces the need for bottled water. One filter does the equivalent of purchasing all of these:
Zuvo versus Bottled Water
Zuvo versus filtered Pitchers

The Good: I love the fact that Zuvo is Earth-Friendly. My children love it because it is fun to use! They love seeing the UV illuminate while in use and it makes them want to drink water! This is unusual for them because it is normally a big fuss to get them to drink water at all. I also like the fact that it can remain attached to my water spout without me having to do anything special to run water that is not for drinking. To turn on the Zuvo water, I just pull out the button on the side of the connector and out comes great filtered water! When I no longer need it, I simply push the button back in and regular water comes out from the tap.

The Bad: Although the Zuvo system does not take up much counter space, the connecting hose does get in the way! I've found myself fighting with it many times. However, if a person has a plug-in beneath the sink, the Zuvo can be installed under the sink with the optional adapter. Another thing is that I am a little uneasy drinking the water that has been saved in the Zuvo filtration tube after the filtration process. Something about drinking the stagnant water makes me a bit uncomfortable (but it is safe to drink as it has already been filtered). Zuvo does suggest putting a day's worth of filtered drinking water in a pitcher to put in the fridge. The water pressure is a bit low when dispersing the Zuvo filtered water. Other than that, I think Zuvo is worthy of recommending and believe that all the benefits definitely outweigh the small inconveniences mentioned.

Where to Buy: The Zuvo Water Purator can be purchased from Zuvo's online store or through many online merchants. For a list of merchants, go here: Where to Buy.

Now here is the fun part! The wonderful people at Zuvo have offered one lucky reader a chance to WIN a Zuvo Water Purator for themselves!!! That's a $300 value for free!!! This makes me excited and I hope it does you as well!

I learned that you can install in above or below the sink..

I grew up on well water and it was great - it even had natural flouride (none of us kids had cavities growing up).

Now I live in the city and filter my drinking water - go figure.

I learned Zuvo is donating all its profits from the sale of its water to Hippo Roller. Hippo Roller is both a product and a charitable foundation. The product is an innovative solution aiding rural villagers with transporting potable water. The foundation is a not-for-profit (501C) organization that seeks innovative ways to fund the purchase and distribution of these rollers.

I learned that it will reduce my electric bill.

I learned that the Zuvo Purator uses a “broad spectrum” UV lamp. In addition to visible light, the Zuvo Purator UV lamp emits shortwave UV energy across a band of wavelengths from 160 nanometers to 260 nanometers (hence the term “broad spectrum”). These two key UV wavelengths are fundamental to the Zuvo performance. Now that's one hi-tech water filter. Thank you for the chance to win.
