Skin MD Natural with SPF 15 Review

As a nurse, one thing I do all day long is wash my hands. After awhile, all the washing and antibacterial gels tend to dry out my skin. I notice that I get tons of hang nails and my cuticles tend to get all puffy and irritated. Therefore, when I was given an opportunity to try the Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion, I was pretty excited. It is formulated with over 93% natural ingredients that are made without those pesky parabens, dyes and other irritating chemicals. Plus, it is made to go on the face, hands, and body, so it can be used anywhere where dry skin and skin problems occur and since it is water resistant, I can apply it at the beginning of my shift and have protection the whole day long!

What makes Skin MD different from other lotions is that it does not clog the pores, but instead, provides a breathable layer of protection over the skin. If the skin is still able to get air, it promotes faster healing. Soaps and detergents strip our skin of its natural barrier of protection and most moisturizers only provide a temporary replacement of moisture, but Skin MD is a shielding lotion that strengthens the skin's natural barrier and helps to restore the skin to its natural condition while protecting it from further damage.
By using a shielding lotion that bonds with the outer layer of your skin you can keep irritants out and moisture in. Most moisturizers do not seal in the body's own moisture, they artificially lubricate the outer layers of skin. When they wear off, the lubrication is gone and the original dryness remains. Sometimes this process will draw out the body's natural moisture and contribute to the skin's dehydration," writes Dr. Peter Helton, a board-certified dermatologist specializing in cosmetic dermatology. (from the website)
What I really liked about the formula that I received for review, is that it also contained a sunscreen--SPF 15. I like to apply it under my make-up for added protection when going outdoors. Since I have issues with acne, I like the fact that it won't clog my pores, thus doesn't cause more acne. It goes on smoothly, not too thin and it absorbs quickly! Best of all, it is scentless, and so if you work someplace where scents can be an issue, as I do, then this is not going to be one of those lotions that you have to save for home use. Take it with you! Use it and be confident that it is doing its job. It works with numerous types of skin conditions and problems from psoriasis and eczema to hives and rosacea,  and is a great product for conquering dry skin.
At Skin MD Natural, high-quality, natural ingredients are just the beginning of exceptional dry skin care for healthy, natural skin. Our natural lotions are made without animal products or animal testing. Skin MD Natural lotion is proud to be vegan and cruelty free. Our dry skin care products are all made in the USA using renewable solar energy to help reduce local air pollution and conserve energy. For an eco-friendly, natural skin care treatment choose Skin MD Natural. Your dry skin and the environment will thank you. (from website)
I found it to be a very good product and I carry it with me wherever I go. It doesn't take very much and so a little does go a long way. As for how it works as a sunscreen? I am very fair skinned, and I used it while we went swimming at a water park. I was really concerned as if it didn't work, I'd be burnt crisp...but it did work. In fact, since it is water resistant, I only had to apply it once and it lasted the whole day! (I did reapply it to my daughter's cheeks more than once as her cheeks did turn a little red, but she likes to swim underwater and submerges her whole head beneath the water).

If you are at least somewhat curious and want to try the product without the initial investment, then I would recommend trying a sample. You can do so by visiting a store where they carry the Skin MD line of products (see here for store near you) or by following the directions here to get a sample sized product by mail.

How to Order: The Skin MD with SPF 15 can be ordered directly from the website for $25. Remember, a little goes a long way and this will be at least a month or two month supply if used on a daily basis.

FTC Guidelines require that I disclose that I received a 4oz bottle of Skin MD with SPF 15 for the purpose of this review. All opinions herein are my own honest opinion. Other opinions may vary. Thanks to Skin MD for the chance to review this product.

Balancing Life, Work and School

I wanted to reassure everyone that I am still here. Simply trying to adjust to a few changes going on in my life at the moment. I just started a new job at a local nursing home, first job as an LPN, so it's been quite the adjustment. Plus, I am still going to college full time in pursuit of my Social Work degree, and although most of my courses are online this semester, the homework is just as intense as always. This week, I think I have found a little bit of a groove, and hopefully before too long I will be able to juggle all my schedules with ease. (It never works out that way though, does it?). So, look forward to several reviews and giveaways coming soon! Plus, more great uniquities and recipes! Expect the Unexpected....

See you soon,

[Me] & Goji Cereal Review

Hazel's Headache Healer
Ingredients:
flaxed and flaked flakes
spelt flakes
quinoa flakes
goji
banana
raisins
pumpkin seeds
sunflower seeds
pine nuts

Directions:
  1. Go to www.meandgoji.com
  2. Mix the perfect blend
  3. Name your cereal and design the container
  4. ORDER and wait....impatiently, until it comes in the mail a few days later!
  5. Eat and Enjoy!
That's how easy it is to create your own custom blend cereal at [me] & goji.com where you decide the ingredients from over 60 different all natural and organic ingredients!

What sort of ingredients are available? When you create your custom blend cereal from [me] & goji, you start by choosing a base. They offer many different flakes, oats, muesli, and wheat blends. From there you enhance the base with such things as cacao nibs, nutmeg, spelt and many more. Now comes the fun part: Add dried fruit (goji, cherry, strawberry, banana, acai powder, etc); Add nuts and seeds (pumpkin, almond, sunflower, pistachio, soy, pecans, pine, etc) and then name your creation and upload a photo if you desire!

The Results: A natural cereal blend that is packed with health-enhancing, energy-boosting, nutrient full whole foods that will dance on your taste buds and leave you craving for more! You might think I'm exaggerating, but here is the proof:

Alexander, Adam and Carl (founders of meandgoji.com cereal blends) do not skimp on contents. From the very first bowl until the very last, you can be assured that you will be getting a spoonful of pure goodness in every bite! What is unique about [me] & goji cereal is that it remains fresh due to its original packaging. Instead of standard boxed cereals that lose freshness shortly after opening, [me] & goji cereals arrive in a cereal capsule! The capsule is 100% recyclable and maintains freshness as it closely tightly so that air does not get in. Even after a couple of weeks, the cereal was just as fresh as the first day I opened the seal. There is nothing worse (okay, maybe there is something worse, but you get the idea) of biting into stale cereal. Ewww. No more! With [me] & goji, you can be confident that nothing goes to waste as it stays fresh until it's gone (which, if you don't hide it specifically for yourself, won't take very long for it to disappear).

Why am I so excited about [me] & goji? Let's see some of my reasons:
  • [me] & goji gives 5% of profits to charity
  • 100% all natural and organic ingredients
  • 100% recyclable cereal containers
  • 100% Post Consumer Waste Shipping boxes
  • Inks to label the boxes use Vegetable Ink (where possible)
  • No trees are damaged for packaging
  • They offer a green tag for $1.00 at checkout to offset the CO2 emissions from the creation and shipping of the cereal. 100% goes to the Bonneville Environmental Foundation who invest it in renewable energy projects
  • This company has a 100% satisfaction guarantee - if you don't like your custom cereal for any reason, they will send you a new one!
For a fairly new company, I am impressed with their "green" dedication!!

A little about the company: (the following is from the website)-

"[me] & goji is dream of adam & alexander.we are two friends combining our passions for healthy, good-tasting food, unique products, and thoughtful design: cereal couture, if you will. our mission-driven company believes in using our resources in ways that benefit social and environmental needs."

If you can't decide what ingredients to blend together, they do offer  premade recipe creations that you can order already blended.

There are approximately 15 servings per cereal capsule, and to get a comparison to the traditional boxed cereal, see their comparison chart.

I truly enjoyed my experience with [me] & goji and highly recommend it to anyone who has special dietary needs such as gluten sensitivity as they do offer gluten-free cereal choices or for any one of you who want cereal YOUR way! I give my seal of approval to Alexander, Adam, Carl and the whole staff at [me] & goji.
I would highly encourage you to visit [me] & goji at the following venues:

What are you waiting for.....start creating!

Until next time....

EvoraPlus Probiotic Mint for Complete Oral Care: Review and Giveaway (Closed)

Probiotics have been around for a little while now. They can be found in such things as yogurt, granola, infant formula, juices, pill form and even in my beloved Miso. So what exactly is a probiotic and why do we need them? A probiotic, from my understanding,  is a friendly bacteria that can provide health benefits to the person using it in adequate amounts. It is most often recognized for its role in the digestive tract as it helps to aid in digestion, and since it is considered a live microorganism, it helps the body defend itself against the unfriendly bacterias that invade our bodies. That's the theory behind it anyhow. It is said that our generation is "too clean". We sterilize everything so well that our body is not introduced to many forms of bacteria. Sounds good, however, our body actually needs some of this bacteria in our body as it helps to keep us healthy. That is why it is encouraged to let the kids play in the dirt....this way they are exposed to the healthy bacterias at a young age and able to have a defense system in place before an unhealthy bacteria makes its presence. Let them get dirty Mom!! You're actually keeping them healthy!

There is a product on the market called EvoraPlus, which is designed to introduce these friendly bacterias into our mouths to combat halitosis (otherwise known as bad breath). Halitosis is generally caused from unfriendly bacteria living in our mouths. By introducing friendly bacteria, EvoraPlus helps to create a natural balance in our mouths, which helps to eliminate bad breath. The website explains it as such:
When EvoraPlus® melts on the tongue, the freeze-dried probiotics activate and attach themselves to the teeth and gum tissue, establishing colonies of live, active beneficial bacteria both on the surface of the teeth and deep beneath the gum line. These colonies compete for both nutrients and space with the harmful oral bacteria that disrupt gum and tooth health, as well as cause bad breath.
In the mouth, the harmful bacteria convert sugar and carbohydrates into lactic acid. Lactic acid is the bacterial by-product which is responsible for a decline in dental health. The Standard American Diet promotes the ongoing conversion to lactic acid by providing a constant source of simple carbohydrates for bacterial cell growth, thus creating a situation for even greater imbalance in oral micro flora.  With daily replenishment, the ProBiora3® beneficial bacteria used in EvoraPlus helps to reestablish the natural microbial balance in the mouth for healthy gums and teeth, fresher breath and whiter teeth.
I was sent a package of EvoraPlus, which is developed by Oragenics Chief Scientific Officer- Dr. Jeffery Hillman,  for the purpose of this review. It comes in a package of 60 mints and since it is recommend to use twice daily, it will be enough to last one person for a month. It is easy to use. The instructions for use read:
Use twice daily. For best results, use after brushing teeth. Allow the EvoraPlus probiotic mint to completely melt in the mouth for optimal effect.
Told you it was easy! The only problem I had was letting it "melt" in my mouth and resisting the urge to chew it. The taste is pleasant. It is not strong like an Altoid would be, nor is it as minty as a Tic Tac would be. I would say it had a hint of mint. The texture is a little different and might take a bit of getting accustomed to, as when it starts to dissolve it does get a bit crumbly and slightly chalky, in my opinion. I found that if I let it dissolve in my cheek area, that I didn't notice the texture as much. I am one cannot stand funky textures on my tongue, so if you are like me, that's one solution. My husband, who doesn't have that funky texture aversion, says he didn't notice anything about the texture being odd, so it might just be me. He also commented on the fresh, minty feel it left in his mouth!

Not only does EvoraPlus help combat halitosis, but the key ingredient of Probiora3 also helps to naturally whiten teeth (up to three or four shades within the first month).
One of the most powerful and unique properties of the probiotic blend used in EvoraPlus® is their ability to release a low level form of hydrogen peroxide as a normal by-product. The continuous low doses of hydrogen peroxide created by the Probiora3® blend of beneficial bacteria naturally whiten teeth without creating tooth sensitivity or gum irritation.
I cannot say that I have noticed a difference in the whiteness of my teeth, however, I haven't used the product long enough to tell the long term benefits. I did notice not having the unpleasant breath upon awakening as much since using EvoraPlus and even after I ate a big juicy Sonic burger loaded with onions, I didn't have that yucky morning mouth that onions usually cause me.

EvoraPlus also has a great website devoted to oral care concerns and questions. I recommend viewing it to learn more ways to combat your oral care concerns within your family or pets.

Remember: Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving

The Labor Day weekend is fast approaching. Let's take this time as a reminder that hundreds of people are killed each day by drivers who are impaired. Just one too many drinks can impair your driving ability. Take the Pledge to not drive under the influence this holiday weekend at the Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving website.

If you know you are going to drink AT ALL, be a responsible adult and get a designated driver! If you are going to hold an event or throw a party, then be certain to supply your guests with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving ad council shares 50 non alcoholic recipes on their Facebook page!  A designated driver is one who pledges not to drink at all and therefore is able to transport without impairment. If you can't find a designated driver, check to see if there is a designated driver program in your state. If not, think about staying home and celebrating.

Don't let your holiday weekend turn into an arrest for buzzed or drunk driving...or worse, don't let it turn into an accident waiting to happen. Your life is worth it! The lives of others are worth it! Don't risk it!

Show your appreciation to your designated driver by sharing the following badge!

It can be posted on Twitter or Facebook and let's your friend know that you appreciate them!

Have a great weekend, and be safe out there!!

Money Savvy Generation Moolah Cow Bank Review and Giveaway (Closed)

My children want everything they see. I can't tell you how many times a week my son pauses the DVR and runs to get me to show me something else he "has to have". He usually gets the typical "put it on your Christmas list", and sometimes this suffices. But, sometimes if it is really really cool, he commences to pouting, which brings me to the discussion of how money doesn't grow on trees and how all those things he wants can add up to a lot of money. Sometimes he gets it and sometimes he doesn't. Usually dependent on where we are at the moment. If we are in a store and the item he craves is directly within touch, the concept of money flies out the window. That is what started my search for a product that would visually give him an understanding of how money works!

My search yielded great results. I found a company online called Money Savvy Generation, which helps teach children and teens how to properly save and invest money. What I loved and what touched me most about this company, is that its co-founder Susan Beacham did not set out to design a product solely for the purpose of turning a profit. Instead, Susan has a dream of teaching our children, the next generation of leaders, the basic concepts of personal finance. It is her dream that children learn at a young age how to manage money so they are not faced with the hardship many adults have found themselves in today. She has donated hours of her time to go to schools and teach the Money Savvy Kids Basic Personal Finance Curriculum (It literally brings tears to my eyes when I think about her dedication) and her dream is to have these lessons reach more families and children across the globe.

What Makes it Unique: The Money Savvy Generation has a unique approach to the traditional piggy bank. Instead of simply dropping coins into a slot, a child is faced with different categories toward saving. The banks (we chose the Moolah Cow) have slots for Save, Spend, Donate and Invest. Before letting the children just drop in the coins without any understanding of what they are doing, we were able to sit down and go through the Money Savvy coloring and activity book that teaches children what it means to save and the importance of donating and investing. By the time we finished reading and doing the activities in the book, I felt reassured that my children understood what the bank stood for and the importance of thinking about their money spending habits. They also offer a story book within their Money Savvy Kids Club that teaches children through interactions with the characters in the book. I highly recommend getting either the coloring book or book set in conjunction with a bank, so that you can get the most out of this product and assure your kids understand the concept behind it.

I also want to link to a page that has some wonderful videos. One is called 5 Tips to Teach Your Kids About Money which directly addresses how to begin teaching your child about money. It's a great place to start if you have no clue on how to begin.

The Good: When I first started out setting the bank on the table, the kids immediately wanted to start dropping coins into it. They didn't read the labels on the side and just thought it was "cool" that they had the different slots to choose from. My mom mode kicked in...."STOP", I told them...and had them empty out the money. I wanted their start with this bank to be done right. We sat down and completed a list of their money saving goals. They took turns discussing about what they really wanted and wrote it down in the activity book. Apparently, my son wants the hook up on a Nintendo DS and my daughter wants a horse. We talked about college (yes, they are only 8 and 10, but they already think that college is not an option but a normal continuation of their schooling), and about saving for their first car (my daughter's long term goal). We even discussed what charity they would like to donate some of their money to, of which, they chose the Ronald McDonald house.

Then, once I felt confident that they understood what the Moolah Cow bank was designed for, I let them have fun filling it whichever way they wanted, after they "paid themselves first" by placing a few of their coins in the Invest slot. When I gave them their $1.00 coin, I let them choose how they wanted to spend it. I was so proud at their choice...donate.

They got it!!! They understood the concept and every time they get money now, they do indeed think about how they want it to be spent. The bank comes with labels that can identify which goal they are working towards, but since my children are sharing their bank, we didn't apply them as each has different goals.

I have nothing bad to say about this product, and for that reason, I give it my seal of approval!!!
How to Buy: The Money Savvy banks can be purchased directly from the Money Savvy Generation website. They have a variety of styles...pigs, cows, footballs...and each costs $16.99.  These products are also available in some retail locations. Check your state to see if there is a retail store near you!
