Ten Thousand Villages- Little Rock, Arkansas

I love to shop, and even when the finances are tight, I still love to window shop!  Simply looking with no intention of buying (although sometimes I go against my own intentions). It's not something many people like to do, and in fact, most people don't shop if they know that they can't buy something. For me though, it's not about purchasing what I admire most, but more about the admiring itself. I just find it fascinating the imagination designers and craftsmen possess and I love to see their vision realized on a store shelf. Take for instance, this adorable store my friend spotted while we were riding the trolley through downtown Little Rock, Arkansas, called Ten Thousand Villages.

From the distance, we could see this display in the window....

and she says to me "That store is so you"--and later, as we walked back to our vehicle from the River Market where we spent the majority of our day, we purposely went into this store. She was right. I absolutely loved everything about it, and immediately fell in love with this beautiful woven tree art right inside the entrance.

Price tag: $84.00--which equals "way beyond my budget", but isn't is just so beautiful!! It would look perfect in my home, and I admit--I had to run my fingers over it ever so gently and for just a second I imagined it mine. But then again, as I walked through the shop, I could imagine most of it being mine as so many of the items fit my tastes.

The wonderful thing about Ten Thousand Villages is that they market products from all around the world and bring artisans together all under one roof.
The items in the above two photos were fashioned from tightly rolled newspaper
Ten Thousand Villages works with artisans from around the world and assures that they receive a fair price for their hard work, through the process of Fair Trade.

Another of my favorite things in the store is this bird sculpture. I have to say I would not have a place for it in my own home, but I love the bold color and the intricate detail in the feathers of the wings and tail. I also love the tree tapestry as well (of course).

My children were actually very well behaved in the store. I think they were recovering from the heat outside and enjoying the air conditioned atmosphere. The only thing I could not get them to keep their hands off of was these beautiful hand-crafted drums:

Other unique items found throughout the store:

If ever you are in the Little Rock area, I encourage you to visit the retail store at the following location:

Or, if not going to be in the area, visit them online: Ten Thousand Villages and enjoy more of their collection!

What is your favorite item to shop for...purses, shoes, jewelry, other? If you could go on a $1000 shopping spree to any store ANYWHERE in the world, where would you go?

I so want one of those crazy frogs!

We have a Ten Thousand Villages here in Ann Arbor, and it's my favorite store! Beautiful handcrafted items, the mitzvah of supporting those in need, very fair prices for what's offered ... even when I can't afford anything, I still love to just be surrounded by the colors and the artistry ... sigh ... :)

What an amazing store! Those things made from newspaper are so unique. I've never seen one of these stores before.
I found you from Friday Blog hop. Can't wait to visit again :0)

Yeah, so I loved this store just from your photo of the building! LOL. Never heard of Ten Thousand Villages before, but I'm googling to see where the nearest one to me is located. I'd love to just wonder through one!

Just wanted to let you know that I am following. I would love it if you could follow me back!

Thanks

Hi, following you back. Thanks for stopping by.

I'm a new follower, found you through Nan's blog!
Wow - what an awesome store!! I like to window shop too. If I had $1000 to spend, I'd head to my favorite thrift store - they have amazing things there, and I never leave empty-handed!! I'd end up with a bunch of home decor, some kids clothes, vintage linens and BOOKS! : ) And the best part would be helping others - the store donates it's proceeds to five charities around Atlanta! Hope you have a great Saturday!

Clothes! I love shopping for clothes, but only when I don't feel fat, and my hair looks good, and I'm wearing decent shoes. :)

Your store is alot like the "Grasshopper Shoppes" in Maine. I've never seen them anywhere else, but in downeast Maine, there are two of them. Full of everything I don't need, but would love to have. Colour, texture, scent, different.

I also like food/cooking/kitchen stores. Again, I don't need anything in them, but I just love looking at everything and imagining. If I got a $1000 shopping spree, it would have to be Williams and Sonoma.

Glad to have you aboard Steadfast. Come again often. Rosemary

Looks like a cute little shop!

Thanks so much for follwoing my blog!
